Words & Music was Planxty's final studio album before the group disbanded for a second time. Produced by Dónal Lunny, it showcases the band's mature sound, combining traditional Irish tunes with contemporary folk songs and outstanding musicianship from Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Liam O'Flynn, and Lunny. Highlights include "Thousands Are Sailing," "Lord Baker," and the powerful arrangement of Bob Dylan's "I Pity the Poor Immigrant."
